Check a parenting proposal against an ordinary two weeks
For Troy parents balancing school, work, and childcare, a proposed overnight rotation needs a transportation plan. Draw two sample weeks using the calendar that applies to your child.
- Mark fixed commitments: school hours, activities, appointments, childcare, and each parent’s known work obligations.
- Assign each transition: who collects the child, from where, at what time, and who handles the next school morning.
- Flag pressure points: travel, rotating shifts, early dismissal, or a recurring gap in available care.
- List backup questions: how to communicate a proposed change and what the current order says about the situation.

Prepare scheduling and support questions separately
A new work schedule may raise questions about both parenting time and household expenses. Give each issue its own short document list so the consultation can address what changed.
- Parenting time: bring the full order, the new work commitment, and a proposed schedule showing transportation and care.
- Child support: bring the current support order, income records, childcare costs, health coverage information, and relevant overnight records.
- Upcoming proceedings: include any Friend of the Court notice, hearing notice, or pending request from either parent.

Bring the actual school calendar and the complete parenting time order. Mark the holiday periods before counting the remaining break days. If the provisions do not explain how the regular rotation resumes, identify that question before finalizing plans.

Oakland County’s Circuit Court Family Division handles divorce, custody, and parenting time matters. Residence in a particular city does not by itself resolve every jurisdiction or venue question, especially where another court has already entered an order. Bring the existing case papers so we can identify the appropriate court and next step.
