Getting married in any country is very much a strict process. There are some instances that people who want to get married would need to know about. We have already discussed and looked at the K1 visa, but what about the K2 visa?
In this article, let us look at the K2 Visa.
What is a K2 Visa?
The K2 Visa is the visa for unmarried children under 21 years of age of a K1 visa holder who immigrated to the United States. It is a non-immigrant visa that can be used by children.
Through this visa, the child can enter the United States territory until he is granted an immigration visa.
As the child acquires his immigrant status through the parent, who is the holder of the K1 visa, this visa is known as the derivative visa.
The eligible children of the K-1 visa holders may apply for K-2 visas based on the approval of Form I-129F, Petition for Alien Fiancé(e). The U.S. citizen fiancé(e) must list the children on the petition and separate visa applications must be submitted for each K-2 visa applicant, and each applicant must pay the K visa application fee.
Who is Eligible for a K2 Visa?
To be eligible for the K2 visa, the applicant must be the child of a K1 visa holder, under the age of 21, and unmarried. ‘
Since it is a non-immigrant visa, the children of the fiancé (e) are required to apply to register permanent residence (Form I-485) for the change of visa status.
What are the documents required for a K2 Visa?
When applying for a K2 Visa, the following are the documents required for the K2 visa:
- Duly filled in Form DS-160 (to be submitted online)
- Passport
- Copy of birth certificate
- Completed Form I-134
- Affidavit of Support and sponsor documents
- Passport sized photograph
- Result of medical examination (from an Embassy-accredited physician)
How Much Does a K2 Visa Cost?
The costs of the K2 visa are divided into three: Form I-129F filing fee, biometrics charges, and Embassy fee. You should prepare the following costs:
- I-129F Filing Fee – $535
- Embassy Fee – $265
- Biometrics Fee – $85 (if required)
Should the K2 Visa holder travel with a K1 Visa holder?
No, even if the K2 visa is a derivative visa of the K1 visa children must travel within the validity of their K-2 visas. Separate petitions are not required if the children accompany or follow to join you within one year from the date of issuance of your K-1 visa.
