Post Placement Reporting: What To Expect After an Intercountry Adoption in Michigan?

|

Adoption is a very strict process. It does not end when you already have the child in your arms. There are some things that you should expect after you get your family together in the United States.

In the second part of this series, let us look at post-placement reporting and what you should expect from it.

Post-Adoption Reporting and Post-Placement Reporting

These two methods have often been the cause of confusion for some parents. Some people think that once they already have their children at home, they will no longer need to deal with anyone else. Unfortunately, this is further from the truth.

You should expect that there would be post-adoption reporting and post-placement reporting that would occur in the process of adoption.

What is Post-Placement Reporting?

In the previous part of the series, we discussed post-adoption reporting. However, not all countries are willing to let go of their children easily. Hence, the adoption process is not always final, even if you already have the child with you and you already brought the child to the United States.

Some countries only allow provisional approval of adoption until the child has spent years of residence for several months with the adoptive family in the new country, in this case, the United States.

The requirements would vary depending on the country that you got your child from. However, most of the countries would require what is called a post-placement report.

A post-placement report evaluates the child’s current relationship with the adoptive parents. Are they bonding? Do they have a good relationship? How are the adoptive parents looking after the welfare of the child? These are parts of the evaluation that should never be taken for granted.

The timely submission of the post-placement reports is important for the finalization of the adoption. Make sure that you have a good Southfield immigration lawyer who can help you out in this situation.
