- A judge can refuse a settlement. In the course of the determination, if the judge finds that the settlement provides inadequate compensation for the severity of the injuries or trauma sustained by the child, then the judge may refuse the settlement offer.
- A judge may direct where the money is awarded. The money awarded to a child can be directed to an account where the money is held or invested so the money is not squandered by either the minor or their parents.
