Are You Eligible For A United States Citizenship?

|

You may have some common questions about United States Citizenship that you want to be answered. Let us help you with some common questions and answers about getting United States Citizenship.

In this first part, let us talk about the eligibility to apply for a United States citizenship.

Am I Eligible To Apply For A US Citizenship?

The most common question that a person has about United States citizenship is whether or not he is eligible for it in the first place. The answer depends on whether you have all of the qualifications and none of the disqualifications.

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is the agency that checks an individual’s eligibility. The following are some of the things that they reiterate when it comes to citizenship eligibility.

Do you have a lawful permanent resident status?

Lawful permanent resident status means that you have entered the United States through lawful means and that you have already acquired permanent resident status. This applies to all of those who seek to be United States citizens except those who acquired their green card under the K-1 visa, spouses of the United States military personnel, refugees, and the like.

Have you lived in the United States for the past five years before application?

This period is important as it determines the length of stay that you have spent in the United States and whether you have been a good citizen in that time. The United States will look at your behavior while you are residing in the country so the period is important.

Did you spend at least half of the five years in the United States before filing your application?

You may have lived in the United States for five years and may have acquired a residence, but are you physically present in the country during that time? This is an important consideration for the United States. The best thing to do here is to make sure that you have been physically present in the United States for at least 4 years and 6 months before the application.

Did you live in the State you are applying to for at least three months before your application?

If you are looking to migrate to the State of Michigan, you should make sure that you have lived in the State for at least three months before the filing of the application. This is important and some individuals forget that this is a big consideration in terms of the periods of stay that are required of them.

Do you know how to converse properly in English?

There is a dreaded interview process that determines this eligibility. Of course, nobody wants to accept a person who cannot speak their language.

Did you pass the test that covers United States history and the United States government?

This is self-explanatory. You are going to take a test to show that you know about the country that you are applying for citizenship for. Make sure that you prepare properly for this part of the process because a lot of people fail in this part.

Are you showing a willingness to swear allegiance to the United States Constitution?

This is self-explanatory. You must be willing to swear your allegiance to the United States constitution and abide by the rules of the country in order to be accepted in it.
