How to Handle Emergency Cases of Common Injuries of the Premises Liability Law in Michigan

|

As discussed in a previous part of this series, generally, when the plaintiff suffered any of the following injuries, caused by the breach of duty, there is a case.

But, what are the kinds of injuries that are considered common injuries that violate the premises liability law in Michigan and how do you handle them?

Common Injuries to Look Out For

If you slipped or fell while on the property of another, you can sue them if you experience any of the following injuries:

Concussions

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a concussion is defined as “a type of traumatic brain injury—or TBI—caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth. This sudden movement can cause the brain to bounce around or twist in the skull, creating chemical changes in the brain and sometimes stretching and damaging brain cells.”

Concussions are very serious especially since it affects the brain. While it can be obtained from an auto accident in Michigan, it can also be obtained as a personal injury in the case of a slip and fall.

If you slipped or fell or tripped on the property of another and you hit your head, make sure that you watch out for the following symptoms. These are symptoms listed by the Mayo Clinic:

  • Headache
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Fatigue or drowsiness
  • Blurry vision
  • Confusion or feeling as if in a fog
  • Amnesia surrounding the traumatic event
  • Dizziness or “seeing stars”

Bone fractures

A bone fracture is easier to detect. According to the Mayo Clinic, a fracture is a broken bone. It requires medical attention if the following are present:

  • The person is unresponsive, isn’t breathing, or isn’t moving. Begin CPR if there’s no breathing or heartbeat.
  • There is heavy bleeding.
  • Even gentle pressure or movement causes pain.
  • The limb or joint appears deformed.
  • The bone has pierced the skin.
  • The extremity of the injured arm or leg, such as a toe or finger, is numb or bluish at the tip.
  • You suspect a bone is broken in the neck, head, or back.

Herniated and ruptured discs

Herniated and ruptured discs usually only affect a single part of the body. If you are concerned that you may have a herniated disc because of the fall, it is important that you immediately seek medical attention.

Shock injuries and burns

In some cases of personal injury, the injured party may be affected by a shock injury or a burn in her body.

Other common injuries that you should immediately get checked out for are the following:

  • Lacerations
  • Torn ligaments and soft tissue injury
  • Spinal cord injury

Keep in mind that if you are already showing signs of a trauma or an injury, make sure that you would not prevent yourself from seeking medical attention. Whether you plan to sue or not is out of the question, the important part is that you get yourself treated for the injury that you suffered.
