What are the ways that you can get your license reinstated?
License reinstatement in the state of Michigan begins at the moment that you apply for the license. You must fill out the application form and the request for a hearing form for you to begin the process.
The process is straightforward and yet some people make mistakes even in just filling out the application form. In this case, you must do your best to hire a lawyer at the beginning of the process so you are guided every step of the way.
Depending on the reason why your license was revoked in the first place, you may need to file additional forms and go through an additional process.
For example, if the suspension of your driver’s license is because you were convicted of substance abuse, you need to fill out an additional form SOS-258 for the Substance Use Evaluation.
In the Substance Use Evaluation, you may need to undergo another evaluation.
Hence, it is clear that you need a lawyer or a legal professional to guide you through this process.
Support Letters
If you did not need people to vouch for you at the time that you applied for your driver’s license in Michigan you would now need people to vouch for you and your sobriety once you are applying for restoration of your driver’s license.
It is now required that they provide support letters and that these documents will show that you have already been rehabilitated and that you are now sober and are ready to embrace yourself back in society.
You may need to submit up to six letters that must all be signed and dated and notarized and should provide the following information:
- The relationship that you have with the person writing the letter as well as how long you have known each other;
- How often the writer of the letter sees you and communicates with you;
- The last time that the writer of the letter had actual knowledge of you using your controlled substance;
- The knowledge of the writer of the letter as to your involvement and support groups or any community work; and
- All other things that would prove that you have been rehabilitated and are ready to be part of society once again.
Additional Documents
When you are applying for a restoration of your driver’s license in Michigan you need to show clear proof that you are already ready to embrace society and that you are ready to drive again. Hence you need to prove that the toxic traits that cause the revocation of your license had already been cleared.
You need to show a drug screen or a toxicology report that you no longer have any controlled substances in your body and that you have been living clean. If you have been caught with a DUI, which caused you to lose your driver’s license, you need to make sure that you show proof that you have changed.
You also need to show a certificate of completion of your rehabilitation or a counseling program. Being able to complete the program shows that you are dedicated and that you are ready to be part of the community once again.

The court understands that it may take some time for you to heal from whatever it is that caused you to break down and lose your driver’s license in the first place. With this, you may also present documentation showing proof of your improvement and performance while you are still in your hobby location or going through the process of improving yourself.
