Common Things To Know During Immigration Interviews

|

The interview of your immigration application in the United States is perhaps the most important part of the process. Here, you are required to present yourself well to the USCIS agent and make sure that he will think that you are an asset to the United States.

With that in mind, this article re

What is the interview about?

The citizenship interview is almost the end of the rope of your application. By the end of it, the USCIS will have an idea as to whether or not they should give you the benefit of citizenship that you are applying for.

The citizenship interview is that stage where the USCIS finally determines if you are worthy and desirable as a new member of American society.

What is the interview based on?

The interview is based on all of the information that you have provided on your naturalization application. It includes all of the questions that are required for you to study as well as questions that are related to your application.

During the interview, you are expected to know two things: all of the information that you have provided in your naturalization application as well as all of the information that you have been required to study as a citizen of the United States.

When should I expect the interview?

After your application is accepted and after getting your biometrics taken, the USCIS will send you an appointment notice. This appointment notice will include the date and time of your interview as well as where the interview will happen.

You need to make sure that you expect the interview to happen anytime after your biometrics have been taken.

Pro-Tip:

You should show up at least 30 minutes early on the date of your interview to allow you more time to complete the check-in process.

What happens if I do not appear during the interview?

Your appearance during the interview is important. If you are unable to attend, you must provide sufficient notice to the USCIS in writing.

If you simply do not show up and do not present any information as to why you will not be able to attend, the USCIS will consider your application as pending. You need to contact USCIS within one year from the date of the interview to get your application back on the right track. Failure to contact the USCIS will lead to an automatic rejection of your application.

Pro-Tip:

It is not a good idea to reschedule your appointment with the USCIS. It will be a long delay if your appointment for the interview is delayed. Any delay should not be tolerated on your part. Keep in mind that immigration is a matter of policy and if a certain delay is caught up with some policy change, you may be hurting your chances of getting the benefit of a United States citizenship.

How long is the interview?

The interview process can take 20 minutes up to two hours depending on the circumstances and the officer who will interview you. Keep in mind that you should allow the whole day for you to get interviewed, otherwise, you might lose your chance because you are rushing through the day and have set another appointment other than the interview.

What should I bring for the interview?

There are two things that you should bring for your interview – the supporting documents that support your claims and your case and the appointment notice. The appointment notice gets you in the door while the supporting documents will get you the benefit of citizenship.

You may have other questions about the interview process, and we have more information for you. The next part of this series should provide you with answers.
