In previous articles, we have provided some answers to common questions and answers that you may have about your biometric services appointment. Let us dive into this further:
What if I want to reschedule the Biometric Services Appointment?
If you want to reschedule your Biometric Services Appointment, you can do so. However, it is subject to many of the requirements set by law such as the fact that it must be for a good cause.
What Is A Good Cause?
The next question that you will ask would be the definition of a good cause. What is a good cause? Good cause means a reasonable excuse for being unable to go to your appointment at the date and time of the appointment.
The USCIS looks at the cases depending on the facts and the circumstances of your case. The excuse that you give must be a reasonable excuse and that means that you need to establish that if the circumstances were different, you could easily attend the appointment.
What do I do to reschedule?
If you hired a lawyer, the lawyer should be able to help you reschedule. You can also do this by calling the USCIS office and telling them about the situation.
What happens if you are unable to reschedule or fail to establish a good cause?
We will let the USCIS answer that. According to the USCIS, “If you fail to call before your scheduled appointment or fail to establish good cause, USCIS may not reschedule your ASC appointment. If we do not reschedule your appointment, we will consider your application, petition, or request abandoned and, as a result, it may be denied.”
What is the workaround if I cannot leave my house or the hospital?
If you cannot leave your house or the hospital, you need to request a mobile biometrics appointment. The instructions can be found in the Notice for People with Disabilities section of your appointment notice.
What if I am not feeling well?
On the day of your appointment, keep in mind that you may not enter the USCIS building in the following circumstances:
- COVID-19 or any symptoms of COVID-19 (according to the CDC), including, but not limited to, recently developed cough, fever, difficulty breathing, the new loss of smell or taste, fatigue, muscle aches, headache, congestion, sore throat, or vomiting (this list does not include all symptoms);
- Been in close contact (within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more) with anyone known to have COVID-19 in the past 14 days (unless you are fully vaccinated,* or you are a health care worker and consistently wear an N95 respirator and proper personal protective equipment (PPE) or equivalent when in contact with COVID-19 positive individuals);
- Returned from domestic, international, or cruise ship travel in the past 10 days (unless you are fully vaccinated);
- Be instructed by a health care provider, public health authority, or government entity to self-isolate or self-quarantine in the past 14 days (unless you have been cleared to end isolation or quarantine).
We recommend that you call the USCIS office before your appointment if you are feeling any symptoms and get yourself checked. After that, make sure that you document every single checkup and appointment that you have as it will help you establish a good cause when the USCIS starts asking questions.
