Answering Common Questions About Your Biometric Services Appointment

|

A Biometric Services Appointment is one of the first things that the USCIS will ask you to do after receiving your application. You will receive the Biometric Services Appointment together with its instructions.

You may have some questions about it. Let us answer them here.

What Can Be Found In My Appointment Notice?

In your appointment notice, you will find that it should have the following: the date of your appointment, the time of your appointment, and the location of your appointment.

What is the Purpose of Obtaining my Biometrics?

The biometric information that will be obtained from you is to confirm your identity, run a background or a security check, as well as keep your personal information in the database.

Keep in mind that when applying for a visa or citizenship, you are asked for such information because you need to prove that you will be a good addition to the country and not a liability.

Can I get a copy of the information gathered about me?

Yes, you may get a copy of the information gathered about you. You simply have to follow the procedure provided in Order No. 1134-86, 51 FR 16677, May 6, 1986, as amended by Order No. 2258-99, 64 FR 52226, Sept. 28, 1999, § 16.32 Procedure to obtain an identification record, to wit:

“The subject of an identification record may obtain a copy thereof by submitting a written request via the U.S. mails directly to the FBI, Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division, ATTN: SCU, Mod. D-2, 1000 Custer Hollow Road, Clarksburg, WV 26306. Such a request must be accompanied by satisfactory proof of identity, which shall consist of name, date, and place of birth and a set of rolled-inked fingerprint impressions placed upon fingerprint cards or forms commonly utilized for applicant or law enforcement purposes by law enforcement agencies.”

What will they obtain from me?

During the biometric appointment, the officer will get your fingerprints, your signature, and anything related to your biometric that would confirm your identity.

What should I expect during my appointment?

When you appear at your appointment, you should expect that you will submit your biometrics on machines that are specifically designed for that purpose.

You will be asked to provide your digital signature and you will be attesting that all of the information that you have provided the USCIS on the day of your appointment and your application is complete, true, and correct at the time of the filing that you have made.

What do I need to bring during the appointment?

First things first, you do not need to bring your lawyer to your appointment. But we will assist you anyway. With all of the information that you need to submit, you know that it can get overwhelming and we are here to help you out, there is no doubt about that.

You do not need to bring us but what we recommend is that you bring the following, these are all coming from the USCIS website:

Your ASC appointment notice (Form I-797C).

You need to provide proof that you have an appointment. In some instances, you may even receive multiple biometrics appointment notices. Make sure that you bring all notices to your appointment at the application support center; and

Your Valid photo identification

You need to show proof that you are who you say you are and with that, you should provide proof such as your Green Card, passport, or driver’s license. Anything that would prove your identity must be presented to us.

USCIS Tip:

The USCIS also recommends that you print or save a copy of your completed application, petition, or request for your records and that you review this copy before you come to your ASC appointment. The USCIS will not provide you with your copy during the biometric appointment, this is your responsibility.
